Christ church is an English speaking anglican chaplaincy
in the church of England's diocese in Europe serving the North Rhein/Westfalen
region in Germany. We meet on Sundays at 11:00.
The church since its inception has been of the
evangelical tradition, but being the only Anglican Church in the area it
seeks to provide a spiritual home for a wide variety of other traditions and
denominations. The congregation is truly international and
interdenominational with people from all over the English speaking world. A
number of English speaking native Germans also attend. Many of the
congregation are long term residents in Germany; others are expatriates who
stay for either a shorter or longer period of time. There are often visitors
who come for the trade fairs and, finding us close by, decide to visit-
several now come every year.
The aim is to minister to all the English speaking
people in the Düsseldorf area, including Duisburg, Essen, Dortmund,
Wuppertal, Mönchengladbach and Krefeld. The congregation is widely
scattered, some members taking an hour or more to come to church by car or
public transport.
Great efforts are made to make newcomers feel welcome
and quickly integrated into the life of the church. As well as being invited
to come to the church hall after the service for refreshment and to meet
other members of the congregation, there is a monthly ?bring and share?
lunch after the service. There is an informal network of support in which
many of the congregation help and support each other. The other area of
ministry in home groups of which there are currently four meeting in
people's homes.
The services generally make use of the Church of
England's common worship liturgy and follow the pattern of family service
(the children stay in and participate) on the 1st Sunday of the month,
morning prayer on the 2nd, 3rd and 5th Sundays and communion on the 4th
Sunday.
